Unconditional stability and convergence of fully discrete schemes for 2D viscous fluids models with mass diffusion

چکیده
In this work we develop fully discrete (in time and space) numerical schemes for two-dimensional incompressible fluids with mass diffusion, also so-called Kazhikhov-Smagulov models. We propose at most H1-conformed finite elements (only globally continuous functions) to approximate all unknowns (velocity, pressure and density), although the limit density (solution of continuous problem) will have H2 regularity. A backward Euler in time scheme is considered decoupling the computation of the density from the velocity and pressure. Unconditional stability of the schemes and convergence towards the (unique) global in time weak solution of the models is proved. Since a discrete maximum principle cannot be ensured, we must use a different interpolation inequality to obtain the strong estimates for the discrete density, from the used one in the continuous case. This inequality is a discrete version of the GagliardoNirenberg interpolation inequality in 2D domains. Moreover, the discrete density is truncated in some adequate terms of the velocity-pressure problem.

A Composite Finite Difference Scheme for Subsonic Transonic Flows (RESEARCH NOTE).
This paper presents a simple and computationally-efficient algorithm for solving steady two-dimensional subsonic and transonic compressible flow over an airfoil. This work uses an interactive viscous-inviscid solution by incorporating the viscous effects in a thin shear-layer. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the Navier-Stokes equations to a parabolic set of coupled, non-linear partial diff...
متن کاملFourth-order numerical solution of a fractional PDE with the nonlinear source term in the electroanalytical chemistry
The aim of this paper is to study the high order difference scheme for the solution of a fractional partial differential equation (PDE) in the electroanalytical chemistry. The space fractional derivative is described in the Riemann-Liouville sense. In the proposed scheme we discretize the space derivative with a fourth-order compact scheme and use the Grunwald- Letnikov discretization of the Ri...
متن کاملMini-Symposium Talks MS4: Numerical Method for Deterministic and Stochastic Phase Field Models
In this talk, we prove convergence for fully decoupled numerical schemes for diffuse interface models for two-phase flow of immiscible, incompressible viscous fluids with different mass densities. The model under consideration is consistent with thermodynamics and it allows for a solenoidal velocity field (see Abels,Garcke,Grün, M3AS 2012). It couples a novel momentum equation for the velocity ...
متن کاملOn Convergent Schemes for Diffuse Interface Models for Two-Phase Flow of Incompressible Fluids with General Mass Densities
Abstract. We are concerned with convergence results for fully discrete finite-element schemes suggested in [Grün, Klingbeil, ArXiv e-prints (2012), arXiv:1210.5088]. They were developed for the diffuse-interface model in [Abels, Garcke, Grün, M3AS, 2012, DOI:10.1142/S0218202511500138] which is to describe two-phase flow of immiscible, incompressible viscous fluids. We formulate general conditio...
متن کاملLong Time Stability of a Classical Efficient Scheme for Two-dimensional Navier-Stokes Equations
We prove that a popular classical implicit-explicit scheme for the 2D incompressible Navier–Stokes equations that treats the viscous term implicitly while the nonlinear advection term explicitly is long time stable provided that the time step is sufficiently small in the case with periodic boundary conditions. The long time stability in the L2 and H1 norms further leads to the convergence of th...
